Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Baton Rouge (CCDBR) is urging those who want to help with Hurricane Helene relief to donate to Catholic Charities USA (CCUSA).
Louisiana is no stranger to disasters and the destruction they cause, especially hurricanes. Leaving more than 200 people dead and hundreds still missing, Hurricane Helene is one of the most dangerous storms to hit the United States in years.
CCUSA is considered the official domestic relief agency of the U.S. Catholic Church and is providing direct support to Catholic Charities agencies in East Tennessee, Charlotte, South Carolina, Northwest Florida, St. Petersburg, and Venice as they support their devastated communities.
“The devastation from Hurricane Helene is unfathomable,” said Stephanie Sterling, CCDBR executive director. “Disaster strikes, and we feel helpless. We want to spring into action and assist those suffering any way we can. The best way to help right now is to donate through CCUSA to provide critical support for immediate and long-term relief efforts.”
One hundred percent of the funds raised by CCUSA goes directly to the local agencies, so they are able to assess needs and obtain what’s needed for their communities. Many are without power, medical care, water, and other basic human necessities. These funds allow for the setup of points of distribution to reach those who need them.
CCDBR is also monitoring the path of Hurricane Milton and will provide more details on how the community can help.

The Diocese of Baton Rouge is also holding a special second collection for Hurricane Helene Disaster Relief at all masses during two weekends in October. Funds will be sent directly to the Dioceses of Pensacola-Tallahassee, Charlotte, and others as needed to provide direct relief to the victims of the hurricane and to sustain the charitable and spiritual works of the Church in these areas.
