We believe that disasters–natural or man-made–should not bring lasting devastation to people’s lives. During calm times, we focus on building communities that are more resilient. After disaster strikes, we are ready to respond with immediate help and stick around to do the hard work of helping people rebuild their lives.

disaster

Disasters put people in dire immediate need and exacerbate poverty. People who have never lived in poverty become at risk of long-term poverty, and those who have lived in chronic poverty have few assets and resources to fall back on.

Our Work

We believe that disasters–natural or man-made–should not bring lasting devastation to people’s lives. During calm times, we focus on building communities that are more resilient. After disaster strikes, we are ready to respond with immediate help and stick around to do the hard work of helping people rebuild their lives.

  • We provide immediate relief when disasters occur, coordinating and distributing supplies like food, water, personal care supplies, cleaning materials and other needed items.
  • Employing our expertise in disaster case management, we assess the needs of disaster survivors and then work with them long term to meet their recovery needs.
  • We help church parishes prepare their congregations for disasters.
  • We work to provide relief with the help of many local and national partners, including American Red Cross, VOAD, United Way and the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank.
  • We coordinate with government agencies on the local, state and federal levels to ensure a successful response to each disaster event.

Our Impact

  • Currently, we have a team of trained, experienced disaster recovery staff working with disaster survivors throughout our 12 parish region.
  • We are helping survivors access resources they need to rebuild.
